We plan to plant a series of 100-Tree “Living Guards of Honour” projects that will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in communities across Canada as part of the The Vimy Ridge Commemorative Tree Planting™ (VRCTP) program. These projects are public-private partnerships with municipalities providing the land and a portion of the costs, and the private sector providing the balance of the funds required and the volunteers to implement the project.
2015 Model Site at 427 Wing
On October 17, 2015, VRCTP was kicked off with the first planting of a model site at the 427 (London) Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association’s historic quarters at 2155 Crumlin Side Road at London International Airport in London, Ontario. This living tribute acknowledges the service and sacrifice of five squadrons (No. 2, No. 16, No. 25, No. 40 & No. 43) of the Royal Flying Corps and the No. 8 squadron of the Royal Naval Air Service that supported the Canadian Corps in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in April of 1917. Almost one-third of the personnel in these squadrons were Canadians.
On Saturday, June 25, 2016, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the model site along with brief announcements about the next phase for the VRCTP, launch of Dr. Joan Clayton’s book, and the presentation of a WWI RFC uniform. Click here for more details.
2017 Second Site in Strathroy-Caradoc
A second VRCTP project is scheduled for the Spring of 2017 in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc. Strathroy has long been associated with General Sir Arthur Currie, the Chief-of-Staff of the Canadian Corps at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and the man responsible for the successful plan of attack. The trees planted will represent the four divisions of the Canadian Corps that served in the First World War.
Please click here to register as a volunteer tree planter for or to donate to the Strathroy tree planting. If you require a charitable tax-receipt, please reference “VRCTP Gemini Project “on your cheque, and make it payable to the “Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc” then mail it to the Town Hall address (52 Frank Street, Strathroy, ON N7G 2R4). Donations as dedications in memory of loved ones are welcome.
Donations that do not require charitable tax receipts are being accepted via by cheque or money order made payable to “Trees for 3 Dots Planting Inc.” and mail it to ‘Oakridge R.O., P.O. Box 28075, London, ON N6H 5E1’.

On April 9, 2017, the project partners, volunteers and donors commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge of World War One with a groundbreaking ceremony for a living guard of honour (LGH) to be planted starting on Arbor Day (April 29, 2017) on Adair Boulevard.
2017 France Project
On April 9th, 2017, up to 500 premium quality maple trees will be planted on Vimy Ridge and the communities surrounding the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France by 100 scouts, guides, cadets and leaders from Canada. The trees will be arranged in a “Living Guards of Honour™” representing each of the four (4) Divisions in the Canadian Corps, and one (1) representing the units attached to the Canadian Corps. This project is being led by our Environmental Horticulturist and Tree Advisor, Paul R. Gagnon, as a stand-alone project that grew out of our VRCTP program.
